The North-eastern Indian State of Arunachal Pradesh bordering Tibet has been claimed by China as part of its territory since India’s declaration of independence. However, Beijing’s claim over this mountainous and thickly forested tribal area is legally and historically weak but the extensive and largely untouched natural resources of the area which the article surveys, make it a critical asset for India which the PRC would like to take over.
