Robben Island is a small island located in the South African territory of Table Bay. Over the course of time, the island has experienced a wide variety of brutalities as a result of colonisation, and apartheid also existed there for a long of time. However, the island has become famous worldwide due to its symbolic status in the struggle for establishing justice and equality among South Africa citizens—irrespective of race, sex, colour or faith—which are the basic components of human rights law. The authors of this article focus on the historical overview of possessive individualism of Robben Island from a socio-economic and political point of view, highlighting the issues of human values and social security that ensure mutual coexistence and cooperation.
