Abstract

Terrorism is probably the biggest threat to international peace, prosperity and security. Pakistan has made South Asia the global hub of terrorism. Being a major victim, India learned to lead the war against international terrorism. The Pakistan-Afghanistan border region is its epicentre. In the wake of globalisation, terrorists are forming transboundary networks using the latest technology and weapons to target a country where it hurts most. Unfortunately, India’s predicament was recognised only when the world realised the scourge in the USA and India in the 9/11 and 26/11 terror attacks, respectively. However, it should not be forgotten that every state has its own perceptions of terrorism. Many countries have criticised and supported it simultaneously. Certain powerful nations wish to control terrorism rather than eliminate it. This paper critically evaluates India’s leadership strategy in the counter-terror movement.
