China has increasingly used soft power diplomacy while dealing with other parts of the world in the recent decades as it strives to become a superpower. Confucius Institutes have spread across the world as a medium to teach Chinese language and culture. In this regard, the use of the Confucius Institutes as China’s tool for expanding its influence in the African continent is highly successful. This study looks in-depth at the growth and influence of the Confucius Institutes in Zimbabwe, a Southern African country with which China shares a special relationship. Considering the rapidly rising number of locals taking up the Chinese language courses it appears that the Chinese have been able to influence the citizens of Zimbabwe to a significant extent.
