The article reviews the history of the UN-sponsored peacekeeping operations throughout the world from their inception and highlights India’s major contributions to this long-standing programme and to its evolution which reflects the changes that have taken place since the early years after the Second World War. India is the second largest contributor to the global peacekeeping undertakings in terms of troops deployed and has won accolades for its professional and reliable performance. It is gaining greater influence on the international decesion-making in this area.
