Abstract

This paper covers the locking of axially loaded bearings on large diameter shafts. A new Multi Jackbolt Tensioning System (MJT) helps to overcome the problems inherent to current tightening methods. Due to the ability to develop precisely controlled high preloads, tremendous axial loads can safely be transmitted. Installation cost and breakdown risk can both be significantly reduced. Some typical applications are documented to support these claims.
