One of the most critical insulating structures in any transformer is the bushing. Since transformers are a key link in the power supply chain, the inability to perform the required function has major economic implications, backlash etc. High voltage bushing failures often followed by catastrophic events such as explosion, tank rapture, fire etc. As determined through analysis 30% of transformer failure are caused by bushings. This number can be even higher for large power transformers. Therefore the issue of determining their life span is vital one.
