Flood disasters in urban areas may arise from floodplain occupation or be generated by changes in land use, such as urbanization and deforestation. The main impacts of flooding on the population occur when there is insufficient knowledge regarding the frequency of water levels associated with floods and planning for space occupancy according to the risks of flood events, especially for new migrants to the city.
