29. Information Technology for Mitigation of Floods

The information technology is involved in three stages along the path of a river flow i.e. the catchment area, regulation from a control point (Dam) and downstream in Plains. Automatic recording off run of and discharge in catchment area and transferring the same to corporate office for evaluation and decision for action plan regarding floods, flood forecasting and remote sensing for real time operation of reservoirs for flood mitigation, regulation, dissemination of flood warnings in plains for rescue and relief operations to save public from the fury of floods are the areas where ‘Information Technology’ can be used.
