A new energy management system can facilitate remote monitoring of an electrical network, identifying areas that are being compromised, and enabling it to provide timely answers to customer concerns. Author, of Argentinean utility EDEMSA, reports. To help increase efficiency and maximise profitability, EDEMSA (Empresa Distribuidora de Energia de Mendoza SA), a major utility in Argentina, has launched a project to monitor and track losses throughout its entire transmission and distribution network. In addition to monitoring fundamental system parameters, Edemsa wanted to examine any technical losses occurring within its substation equipment (such as transformer loss), as well as losses occurring elsewhere in the system.
