Abstract

Timely and adequate irrigation imparts the better opportunity to crop for bettern production. The present paper describes the experience gained under a study conducted for application of producer gas for water pumping. The study revealed that the use of down draft gasifiers for irrigation pump operation is possible and diesel replacement of the extent of 32.4 to 61.5% could be attained. The diesel engine could be operated for 750 h of operation on producer gas. The engine operation faced few operational constraints due to tar deposition at engine parts. The study identified the problems/faults occurred during dual fuel operation of the engine along with their reason. The study explored that use of dual fuel in diesel engine is feasible provided the producer gas used is clean from tar.
