Karnataka has identified 21 villages in addition to the 18,000 hamlets that are yet to be electrified. During the year 2004–05 KREDL the State Nodal Agency for renewable energy development in the State has taken up electrification of 13 remote villages and seven hamlets using SPV systems. As a demonstration project they have taken up four villages in different districts. In Kodihalli village, each household contributes Rs. 40 per month towards maintenance and repairs and cost of replacement of batteries after a 5 year warranty period provided by the manufacturer.
