The subject discussed here covers the need to streamline the Power transformer specifications used by various Power Utilities in India under APDRP Projects. So far we have seen standard ratings like 3.15 MVA, 5 MVA, 6.3 MVA, 8 MVA, 10 MVA etc. with a common voltage ratio of 33/11 kV. MPEB and RSEB find 3.15 MVA and 5 MVA are the most suitable ratings for their Distribution System. UPPCL do not use 3.15 MVA transformer as this looks to be small in capacity for their system. They prefer 5 MVA, 8 MVA and 10MVA transformers which are the most ideal ratings for their distribution systems. The newly formed Uttaranchal State follows UPPCL closely. HSEB and J&K prefer 6.3 MVA transformer. Orissa under the control of BSES (Reliance Energy Ltd.) uses 3.15 MVA, 5MVA and 8 MVA (OLTC) transformers. Out of all these ratings, 5 MVA transformer looks to be very common rating which is preferred by most of the SEBs.
