Floods constitute the most important among the natural disasters. Floods represent about 30% of the total number of natural disasters and cost about 40% of fatalities worldwise. Dams are effective means of flood mitigation measures. Panchet and Maithon dams in Damodar River Basin are playing a very important role in mitigating flood damages of “the river sorrow” namely Damodar River.
