For flood protection; dams/reservoirs in the upstream reaches and embankments, river training works and floods drains in the downstream reaches and non-structural measures like flood forecasting and warning system are adopted. The disaster management of floods through participation of civil administration, engineers, doctors and the public is the primary requirement for combating floods. The use of electronic media (TV) for flood prepared mass highlighting adverse affects and precautions thereof, mock exercises for combating flood, posters and painting competitions in schools about floods are necessary to create awareness among masses about flood for their mobilization. Advance planning for fighting floods with proper co-ordination at various levels of departments in government and associating grass root level villagers and flood affected persons along with timely dissemination of flood information plays a major role for mitigation of fury of floods.
