Abstract

The current emphasis and priority of Indian power sector is to exploit the untapped hydro potential. Many mega hydro projects are under various stages of execution. Seismic qualifcation of dams, critical structures and other major power plant equipments are necessary to ensure safe, reliable and quality power supply. To cater the needs of power utilities and industries, facilities are available at CPRI for conducting seismic qualification tests on scaled down structures and prototype power equipment. Seismic qualification tests are carried out using triaxial shaker system to evaluate the adequacy of structures and power equipment in resisting earthquake loads and to study their performance and reliability during earthquake.
