The growing awareness of the important role of the alluvial sediment in water resources management has accenutated the need for better and more consistent information, yet it still lags behind. In the Nile Basin the problem of sediment management represents quite challenge. In this paper brief information of the sediment transport and watershed management is reported. The difficulties and constraints in this field are reflected and discussed. Comments on sediment modelling in general and in the Nile Basin in particular are highlighted. Among many sediment modelling softwares, SMS model has been selected for data analysis in the Nile Basin. The experience of Sudan (67% of the Nile Basin areawise) in sediment management, which is very rich, is examined and explained. It is clear that management for sediment should seek to work with nature, not agaist, for ecological and economic sustainability. The paper concludes that sediment supply, transport and depostiion are spatially and temporally variable, therefore, integrated sediment transport management on the Nile Basin requires a policy aiming to minimizing the adverse impacts of sedimentation both for U/S and D/S countries in the entire basin.
