Selection of dump site in an opencast mine using gis – an approach

This paper highlights the basic approach to select the suitable dumpsite in an opencast mine with the help of GIS. GIS has been used in this work as a tool to check the suitability of the areas on the basis of given conditions. In this paper five parameters were taken into consideration to check the suitability. These are distance from working benches, slope, old working area, distance from road, railway, jore and mineral bearing areas.
