The amount of cogeneration plant at work in Japan has increased 40-fold since 1985, to nearly 8000 MW. Supported by a range of improvements to the regulatory regime, the cogeneration industry now includes installations from the domestic-scale to very large plants serving industrial sites, as the Japan Cogeneration Centre's author reports.
