Renovation of Hydro-Generators at site – A case study

Shanan Power house at Joginder Nagar is the oldest in North India, having 4 No. Units, each of original capacity 12 MW, and was commissioned in 1932. The project is run of the river type and uses water of Uhl and Lambadug rivers, which are the tributaries of Beas River. Earlier, in the year 197982, the renovation work involving replacement of stator and field winding, exciter and A.V.R., turbine runner, governing system and augmentation of substation equipment was carried out and capacity of each unit was augmented to 15 MW. Again, after nearly twenty years, these units were renovated with some additional features to take care of the operational problems being experienced on these units.
