Abstract

The pollution of environment has become a grave concern for the societal existence in the modern age. Water is one of the most fundamental components which govern the preservation/deterioration of the environment. Management of environment being a primary need, the study on the different aspects of polluted sewerage discharge in the cities and also on their changes in quantitative terms after treatment to understand the impact of management practices on such discharges, is of utmost importance. In Bidhan Nagar Township, the Bagjola Sewerage Treatment Plant has been in existence to treat the pollutant sewerage discharge in the locality. Extensive statistical analyses on the observations in respect of the water quality parameters reveal that the treatment conducted by the plant contributes significantly to the improvement of the quality of the raw sewerage discharge.
