Investigation and Exploration plays an important role for any Civil Engineering Structure as far as its economy and safety are concern. The overall prediction of proposed structure is dependent on the lower most elements, namely foundation and the soil or rock mass which is the ultimate reacting medium. The specialized structures like irrigation project, tunnels, underground transportation system, ducts, water ways or power plants require careful studies of bedding of soil or rock on which or within they are constructed. Due to fastly widening of horizon, like investigation of minerals, on shore or offshore, investigation of petroleum require special techniques, so as within short time, and with less effort an economical attempt is made. Seismic refraction method for exploring a wide area with huge depth is a powerful application of laws of nature! Authors with latest seismographs have explored many sites for multinational power project sites with different soil conditions with case study and description of the set up is attempted in this paper. The assumptions and limitations of the tests, and very shallow provision in India standards are also discussed.
