45. Estimation of Reservoir Capacity by Spline Technique

The objective of the sedimentation survey is to obtain information regarding the location and extent of deposition of sediment. It is also used to assess the probable total useful life of the reservoir. These surveys are conducted periodically to find the capacity of the reservoir. The above information is useful in determining the most effective and economical control measures needed to reduce or control the rate of sedimentation. Thus if it is possible to estimate the reservoir capacity for the near future, it will help to take decision about the control measure to be undertaken to check the sediment rate. Though a few methods of estimate of the reservoir capacity are available, yet there is scope for development of better methodology and the spline technique need to estimate the reservoir capacity. It is found that this technique can interpolate the results very precisely and can also give an extrapolated value at a date in distant future.
