Polyethylene geomembrane are widely accepted as a lining solution to the waste containments for decades, which includes solid waste santary landfill and wastewater treatment ponds, etc. The paper presents the application of impervious Polyethylene geomembrane adopted as an important component of the composite bottom liners and final capping systems in waste containment facilities. This paper discusses the characteristics and durability of polyethylene geomembrane as an effective component of the barrier system to the waste containment structures. The flow rates comparison of 3 basic liners, namely clay liner, geomembrane liner and geomembrane/clay composite liners is also discussed, in which the composite liner indicates outstanding performance has therefore made it become a commonly accepted barrier system for the modern wast containment facilities. Lastly, some successful experiences on the application of polyethylene geomembrane is Asia for bottom liner and final capping systems of modern solid waste landfills are illustrated.
