Abstract

Under its Standards and Labelling (S&L) Programme, Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) is considering development of a Minimum Energy Performance Standard (MEPS) for electric motors. Initially, this is being considered for LT AC 3-phase squirrel cage induction motors of ratings from 0.75 kW up to 15 kW. To evolve the basis of a recommendation for a motor MEPS, testing of 4-pole motors of rating 2.2 kW and 3.7 kW was undertaken to determine performance parameters of motors being manufactured currently and to examine aspects relating to their design and construction. This article summarises the results and findings from these tests.
