Abstract

Electric power distribution system is an important part of electrical power system in delivery of electricity to consumers. With the rapid growth of power distribution systems in size and complexity we need automated systems to aid a reliable and high-quality power supply with minimum interruptions and losses. This paper describes the latest trends involved in distribution substation for control and protection and describes how Automatic Data Logging System remotely monitors the distribution system through the state of the Art substation communication gateway, facilitates supervisory control of devices and provides decision support tools to improve the system performance and how it helps in accomplishing control and protection of substation with the goals of data integrity & reliability, enabling better service by limiting the number of outages.
