In the majority of agricultural areas, it is necessary to construct irrigation reservoirs to store the required amount of water to be available at any time. The demand for land and water in Ghaghra Gomti Basin, (GGB) is continuously escalating due to increased population. The land can be used intensively on even up to 3 crops in a year for which water is needed. Therefore, water management and increased production are very essential and crucial for the development; and various water storages in the form natural as well as the artificial system need .to be rehabilitated and/or managed. For the design and management of such a water bodjes/structures, a realiable and accurate estimates of runoff potential in the catchment is reqUired. The present paper is therefore divided into two sections: first section deals with the status of wetlands and ground water potential in the GGB, and in the second section the modified SCS-CN technique has been demonstrated as an estimator for he wnoff potential.
