Manufacture of AC motors commenced in BHEL at Haridwar plant in 1967 with USSR collaboration. The first product to roll out of the plant was a 66 Kw Flame Proof AC motor. BHEL entered into collaboration with Siemens AG, Germany in 1981 in the area of AC Motors for ratings unto 35,000 Kw. Special facilities were added to augment the quality and reliability of electrical machines. The large size AC Machine manufactured at Haridwar plant include 10,800 Kw, 3000 RPM Synchronous motor for testing large size Turbno Generator manufactured at Haridwar plant and 6000 kW, 6.6 kV, 1500 RPM, Vertical AC Motors for driving Primary Coolant Pumps for 550 MW, Atomic Power Project, Tarapur.
