The most cost effective and frequently used carriers for electric energy are overhead transmission power lines. Exposure to environment accelerates deterioration resulting in small failures. If not detected and repaired, some of them become serious problems in time. Motivated to drop maintenance costs, under growing demand for reiable energy supply, electric utilities run inspection programs to locate, follow-up and repair any significant failures at the earliest possible stage.
