Abstract

Technological Advancement has given various options for the Manufacturers to give excellent solutions in the field of Energy Automation. With this advantage all Power Utilities nowadays receive the best possible automation solutions. With advancement in numerical technology the bonding between the Substation Automation and Protection of power system has gone had in hand to give more features to the Power Utilities. Manufacturers devote also much effort to managing the products in which a variety of protocol hardware and software resides. In the past few decades new communication have been designed and retrofitted into the substations by the utilities to integrate date from the relays and Intelligent Electronic devices (IED’s) and achieve various functions like Protections, Control, Metering, Fault recording, Event-logging, Report generation etc. in a substation. The task of data collection and substation monitoring has undergone through a dramatic change with the introduction of IEDs. These IEDs have the complete functionality A-Z what is required for Protection and Automation. With IEC-61850 becoming the single communication standard in the world, enabling the much awaited interoperability without the use of any protocol converters or gateways thereby giving the customer a safety for future expansion.
