Abstract

Kudankulam, a small sleepy village few a few years ago, is witnessing a major transformation, not just through the construction of India’s biggest-ever power project, but also by becoming a hub of renewable energy source - a landmark place for generating clean and green energy, be it through nuclear power or through wind power! Kudankularo nuclear power project (KKNPP) is a site where energy from both conventional and non-conventional sources of power is be‘ing tapped. It is a classic example of co-existence of conventional as well as non-conventional form of energy at one single place. It is only natural that, both these sources of power would immensely help our nation to create a cleaner and greener future. The wind potential of Kudankulam site is being tapped through a diversification programme of Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL). A landmark beginning of the above programme has been made with the setting up of a 10 MW wind farm consisting of eight 1.25 MW wind turbine generators (WTGs) at KKNPP site.
