Different agencies and governments are focussing on conservation and optimum utilization of water resource with equity concern. Developmental works in the rural areas is focussed for the productivity and production through conservation measures. These conservation measures involve construction of farm ponds, dugout ponds, percolation tanks, renovation of existing tanks, check dams, gully plugs and gully checks etc. Since, these structures are needed to be implemented in the large scale to be meaningful; cost effectiveness is the prime concern in the selection of the structures and implementation stage. The objective of these programmes is to use the water resources efficiently and effectively for domestic and irrigation purposes. This paper discusses the components than. can be taken under the analysis for the productivity and production with respect to the activities which are successfully completed and to analyze the amount spem on different activities such as social and engineering measures. This will not only help to decide the cost effective structures and to access the economic feasibility, but will also help in the assessment of the production and productivity of the corps. Benefit: Cost ratio, NPV value and IRR calculated for the different water resource structures to assess the crop production and productivity revealed that these parameters were high in case of renovation of existing tanks. The percentage of net income for different water resource structures have been calculated for mini percolation tanks, dugout ponds and renovation of existing tanks and found to be 91.5, 81.5 and 350.0. From the analysis and study it is proved. that renovation of the existing structure will return more benefit to the farmers and society and also, the crop choice should be based on the type of . soil existing and farmers choice.
