Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (HUDA) has undertaken an ambitious programme of Integrated Urban Lake Conservation. This is part of the Green Hyderabad Environment Programme (GHEP) with objective of sustainable improvement of living environment of the urban population in Hyderabad Development Area. 87 lakes are prioritized to conserve, treat and manage in HDA area. HUDA adopted an integrated approach to cope with the challange of lake treatment and management. 87 lakes are categorized into Highly Polluted and Less Polluted. Highly Polluted lakes are prioritized with Sewerage Treatment facility to maintain the lake hydrology. Boundary demarcation, protection, inflow and outflow channel restoration, surplus development and lake park establishment are the major components in the urban lake conservation programme.
