With present Power deficit scenario in our country, there is lot of pressure on Operating and Maintenance Staff of the Power Plant to enhance the Operating Availability of the Generating Units and ensure maximum generation from these units to meet Grid demand.
Under this scenario, increasing the reliability of all equipments installed in a Power Plant becomes very important. This is more important for the major equipment like Boiler, Turbine, Generator and Generator Transformer where there is no standby arrangement in the plant. Any problem in these equipment lead to the outage of the plant causing total generation loss. Though the reliability of any equipment is embedded right from Design stage to Manufacturing stage by various process like proper selection of material/manufacturing technology and assembly procedures, but, reliability also depends on operating environment, quality of monitoring during operation of the equipment and actions being taken during planned overhaul of the equipment.
Today, time interval between each overhaul is also under pressure and efforts are on to increase the time interval between subsequent overhauls.
