NDPL is a Joint Venture between Tata Power and Govt. of NCT as a result of the privatisation of electricity distribution in Delhi. Tata Power Company Limited acquired 51 per cent stake in NDPL and took control of the management effective from July 1, 2002. It is distributing power to 550 Sq. Kms. area of Delhi since July’ 2002 and covers a population of 4.5 Million and 9 Lakh consumer base.
At the time NDPL formed power distribution companies were under transition phase. Transparency and accountability were the need of hour to face the corruption institutionalised within the system. Regulatory system was introduced to standardise the norms. There was a need to focus on consumer satisfaction through delivery and consumer affection.
