(Seminar on Fault Finding and Life Assessment of Power Transformers, pp. 150-156)
Power transformers are continually evolving mature products. Over the years many incremental improvements representing significant enhancements of operational reliability, reduction in losses, improvement in materials and accessories and more efficient manufacturing have taken place.
In this report, present day practices short term and long-term assessment of various critical aspects of power transformers will be discussed. This report will address technology, materials, manufacturing and testing aspects of liquid filled power transformers. It is not intended to be an exhaustive, comprehensive, complete report but it will review and discuss major features of power transformers.
Gas insulated transformers, high voltage cable wound transformers and converter transformers are special applications and will not be covered by this report.
The following topics will be treated in this review:
Transformer technology and design
Materials
Manufacturing, processing and testing
Accessories, monitoring and controls.
