Abstract

Violation of Indian Electricity Rules leads to electrical accidents causing loss of life to humans/animals and loss of property, Though Indian Electricity Act 1910 had mandatory provision of Indian Electricity Rules 1956 for using electricity safely and also for its generation, transmission, distribution and utilization. Since electrical energy is used in every sector, i.e. industry, Agriculture, commercial and domestic sector etc., it is the prime duty of utilities as well as users to take all safeguards while laying/maintaining and utilizing it.

All the countries whether developed or underdeveloped have framed certain laws and bye laws of their own in connection with earthing system and safety practices against electrical accidents. This paper ‘Earthing and IE Rules’ aims at putting light on the importance of earthing and various Indian Electricity Rules framed under IE Rules 1956 by Central Electricity Board.
