Abstract

The paper gives in brief an account of the hydraulic tests indicating how economic and effective designs for remodelling some of the existing Canal Head Regulators were evolved by the aid of hydraulic models. A few specific cases dealt with by the Research Station in the past are also included as examples on the subject, where along with other features, the discharging capacity of existing sluices could be increased by as much as 2-3 times their initial capacity by modifying the inlet and exit transitions, and thus reducing head losses in the structure.
