Abstract

This paper is a sequel to the earlier paper (1) written by the author.

Further experimental investigations carried out when there are one, two and three sheet piles with the floor and the horizontal impervious layer is assumed to be at different depths are described in this paper in Section I, II and III respectively. The results presented in brief on non-dimensional basis cover the extent of the influence of such a type of stratification on uplift pressures and give additional data to that already existing on the subject of design of weirs on permeable foundations(2) for homogeneous sub-soil where no rational account of stratified foundations has been taken hitherto.
