*Paper presented at the 2ith Annual Meeting of the Research Committee held at Srinagar in June 1958.
The paper is a review of investigations made on all aspects of cavitation phenomenon. It deals with the results of theoretical and experimental investigations regarding the mechanics and mechanism of cavitation of various types. Experimental techniques used in the investigations of this phenomenon have been described. The limitations of applying laboratory results to prototypes have been discussed. Its effects on hydraulic structures and measures necessary to overcome or mitigate its effects have been mentioned.
