Abstract

The ever-increasing use of pozzolans as materials for replacement of cement in the cement mortar and concrete, necessitates the evolution of tests with which the quality of a pozzoian may be checked in the least possible time. The most reliable test in vogue, to check the quality of a pozzoian is its potentiality to react with hydrated lime. The method being time-consuming, an attempt has been made to evolve a quick lime reactivity method in the Bhakra Dam Project Laboratories. According to this method, the lime-pozzolan mortar specimen is subjected to accelerated curing in steam under pressure. The results obtained have shown that lime reactivity compressive strength developed in half an hour under accelerated curing bears a constant ratio to the compressive strength obtained by conventional curing period of seven days.
