Abstract

This paper is a sequal to the previous papers (1) written by the author on the above subject, the study on which was further continued. The techniques of the Electrical Analogy Method have been developed to solve some typical problems of Potential Flow and Stratification in sub-soil. These include cases of semi-pervious layers, impermeable blocks and local pockets etc., and the estimation of their effects on uplift pressure below a barrage.

On the basis of the results of the works reported (1) previously, it has been possible to make a rational approach to estimate the overall effect of stratification in sub-soil on the uplift distribution in designing structures on permeable foundations for which a term “Stratification Coefficient” has been introduced. The work reported was carried out in C. W. & P. Research Station, Poona.
