Studies to be undertaken for a rational climatic classification of India with particular reference to moisture deficiency and surplus are indicated. Techniques for measurement of reservoir evaporation are presented and the need to experimentally verify the derived values stressed. Some of the problems encountered in estimating evapotranspira-tion by the energy balance, mass transfer and other methods are outlined.
