The paper reviews the theoretical treatment of drawdown pore pressures in earth dams. Graphical solutions of Kellog’s unsteady state equation for pore pressure dissipation under instantaneous and time drawdown have been given. Results of hydraulic model studies for determination of drawdown pore pressure in a 116 ft. (35.35 m.) high earth dam made in clayey soil have been reported. Model values have been compared with values obtained by the existing theoretical methods.
