In this paper, a short-smooth-steep chute has been defined, with the development of a general equation for the limiting length of the same for any discharge and slope. Secondly, using the concept of ‘energy thickness’ of the boundary layer and using Hino’s equation for momemtum thickness and also the experimental findings of Bauer and Halbronn, a theoretical expression has been developed for the energy loss in a short-smooth-steep chute.
