In this paper, Sliding Wedge Method for analysing the stability of slopes has been presented. Situations have been indicated where planar failure is a more appropriate assumption than the usual cylindrical failure. Simplified procedure for determination of the factor of safety under seismic conditions has been presented. An example analysing the stability of an earth dam slope has been included to illustrate the method.
