A new type of flow controller was designed to draw freely a constant discharge irrespective of the variation in upstream and downstream water-levels. A floating device was used to keep the head constant over the perforations in the cylinder which moves vertically through a horizontal orifice provided at the bottom of a tank. There will be discharge of water through the perforations in the moving cylinder and horizontal annular orifice. The former discharge will always be constant as the head over these perforations is constant and the latter varies with the head above this horizontal orifice. To compensate this variation in discharge, required number of orifices were provided in the moving cylinder. Three models with different cylinders containing perforations of different diameters and moving vertically through a horizontal orifice, were studied to draw constant discharges.
