Abstract

A review of certain practical methods of in situ determination of permeability, such as Slichter’s electrolytic method, Theim’s multiple well pumping method, Bore-hole tests developed by U.S.B.R., Don Kirkham’s auger-hole methods, pond tests, permeameter and electrical analogy methcds are presented along with their field applications. Experience bears out that in spite of theoretical limitations, a fairly representative idea of the in situ permeability of sub-soil strata of varying nature, capable of practical application to field problems could be obtained by a proper choice of the methods presented.
