Abstract

The daily rainfall and run-off data for the Kallada River basin in South Kerala was collected for a period of six years. A graphical correlation study between the variables affecting run-off, based on the above data was found to be very useful for estimation of the dependable yield from the catchment. The base flow was estimated separately. The other variables taken in the correlation between monthly rainfall and direct run-off were the month under consideration and the previous month’s rainfall.

The estimation of yearly yield from the nearby basins by using the graph indicated very close agreement with measured run-off volumes. Thus it was concluded that the correlation obtained is applicable to the nearby basins also, and that the variables taken into account are sufficient to give a fair estimation of the yearly yield from the catchment.
