The previous methods developed by Einstein(2) and Johnson(1) for the side-wall correction considered the channel cross-section to be divided into two sections, corresponding to the wall and the bed, assigning different hydraulic radii for the two. Johnson’s method was modified by Brooks(3), to facilitate computations. Following this and based on certain energy considerations, a method has been developed to find the bed shear and bed friction factor, which assumes different values of the energy gradient and the hydraulic radius for the two sections.
